Describe each surface separately
A painted ceiling, tiled wall and shower enclosure may not use the same lining specification. Identify which surfaces are changing and where plumbing, niches or cabinetry will sit. The contractor needs the relevant system and design requirements before materials are selected.
Make the trade boundaries explicit
Ask whether demolition, framing adjustments and backing are part of the enquiry. Lining installation should be distinguished from waterproofing, tiling and painting, with responsibility for each stage clear. Quote comparisons are more useful when every provider is pricing the same surface areas and finish requirements.
Prepare the room for the next stage
Tell the installer when plumbing and electrical work will be complete and who is coordinating subsequent trades. The room needs to be assessed for readiness before it is closed. Avoid ordering sheets or setting a tiling date until the required lining system and sequence have been confirmed.
Questions about bathroom & laundry linings.
Is wet-area lining the same as waterproofing?
No. Treat lining and waterproofing as separate parts of the project and ask the responsible professionals to confirm the required system and sequence.
Can I enquire about the ceiling only?
Yes. Include dimensions, ventilation and current ceiling condition, plus whether the walls and fittings must remain protected during the work.
