Describe the wall framing, roof structure and surfaces already in place. Include garage doors, exposed services and any storage fixed to the walls. Photos of the entire space help establish whether the enquiry is for straightforward lining or a broader project needing other trades first.
Price the details around the edges
Door tracks, rafters, sloping ceilings and exposed pipes can create additional finishing work. Ask how these interruptions will be treated and whether framing or backing is included. Moisture conditions and the proposed use need assessment before the lining material is agreed.
Be clear about a change of use
If you want a habitable room rather than a lined garage, state that before requesting a price. Approvals and building requirements need to be resolved through the appropriate professionals. A plasterboard quote on its own does not establish that a garage is suitable for that new use.
